We hope the new academic year has started well for you all. With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, we would like to wish you and your loved ones a joyful celebration.
SCEN Youth Summit and Mandarin Speaking Competition 2026 – Registration Reminder
Registration remains open for the SCEN Youth Summit and Mandarin Speaking Competition 2026, which will take place on Thursday 26 November 2026, from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, at The Ramshorn, 98 Ingram Street, Merchant City, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow G1 1EX.
We would like to thank all the schools that have already confirmed their participation. We are delighted by the interest received so far and look forward to welcoming students and teachers from across Scotland for a day celebrating Chinese language learning and engagement with China-related education.
Schools are invited to enter students for the Mandarin Speaking Competition and to contribute to the programme through performances and presentations. The participation form, competition rules and judging criteria, and provisional programme are available with this Update.
Completed forms should be returned to admin@scen.info by Friday 6 November 2026. However, as venue capacity is limited, places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Schools intending to take part are therefore encouraged to register and confirm their attendance as soon as possible to secure their places.
We hope that many more schools will be able to join us and look forward to another lively and inspiring Youth Summit in November.
SCEN/CFS Lecture Planned for March 2027
SCEN is currently in discussion with CFS about a possible joint lecture to be held at the University of Edinburgh in March 2027.
It is hoped that the event will feature a prominent business speaker with strong links to China, offering young people insights into the opportunities and experiences involved in engaging with China through work, business and cultural connections.
Further details will be shared as plans develop.
Specific School Events
SCEN is always happy to work with schools on school-based events that celebrate the learning of Chinese and encourage young people to explore future educational, cultural and professional links with China.
Schools interested in developing an event are very welcome to get in touch with us to discuss ideas and possible collaboration.

We encourage colleagues, schools and organisations with an interest in China and Chinese language education to join the SCEN Network and become part of a growing community committed to strengthening engagement with China.
By joining the Network, members can stay connected with SCEN activities, events and opportunities, and contribute to wider educational and cultural links between Scotland and China.
