Forum for SCEN Ambassadors

A Forum for SCEN Ambassadors took place at the impressive South Hall, Pollock Halls at the University of Edinburgh on Friday 2 February 2018, chaired by Rosemary Mitchell, Convener of SCEN Ambassadors.

The purpose of the Forum was to outline the Mission and Structure of the SCEN Ambassador programme and to discuss various aspects its implementation.  We were fortunate to welcome representatives from Schools, Colleges, Universities and the Scotland China Association. It was good to see travelers from Grangemouth High School, Falkirk and from two Swire Chinese Centres of Excellence: Boroughmuir High School, Edinburgh and Jordanhill School, Glasgow and its partner Knightsbridge Secondary School, as well as from Confucius Hubs, including the new Hub at Dalry Primary School, Edinburgh.

Maia Hollins-Kirk and Lewis Hanley (both members of the SCEN Youth Committee) outlined the programme and the three levels of Ambassador in schools, Panda, Tiger and Dragon, as well as the Role of Mentor Teachers. Delegates then split into groups to discuss, make suggestions and draw up future plans. These groups were ably and efficiently chaired by members of the SCEN Youth Committee, including Peter Tompkins (Holyrood Secondary School, Glasgow), Oliver Mee (Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh), Megan Robertson (Edinburgh University), Maia and Lewis (Lasswade High School, Midlothian) and also by Zhang Hao, a doctoral student from the University of Edinburgh and a volunteer through EUSA in the SCEN Learning of Chinese programme in East Lothian.

Discussion was lively and well informed, providing much food for thought and outlining huge potential for future SCEN events and projects. The reports by Table Chairs will be considered by the SCEN Youth Committee and presented to the Trustees of SCEN. An Action Plan will follow!
