From Monarchy to Republic
Professor Yuri Pines from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will address short - and long-term repercussions of China's transformation from a monarchy into a republic and reassess its political and cultural consequences during his talk on Thursday 17 March.
During the lecture, Professor Pines will present a renewed analysis of advantages and disadvantages of China's abolition of monarchic rule. This talk will be of particular interest to historians of traditional and modern China and also be relevant to those concerned with China's ongoing attempts to redefine its cultural image.
This is the second lecture of the 2016 Distinguished Lecture Series and will take place in Lecture Theatre 2 at the University of Edinburgh's Business School from 6pm on Thursday 17th March. A networking drinks reception will be followed after the lecture and Q&A. No booking is required. All welcome!
